Today’s suggested pose is Adho Mukha Svanasana or Downward-Facing Dog Pose.
In concert with our word of the day — Aware — use this pose to draw yourself inward as you take this inversion to turn your world upside down in a positive manner. A change in view can often allow you to be more aware of yourself.
There are many modifications for this pose, so be willing to be that scientist of your own body and modify to find what works best for you. Here are a few suggestions.
Modifications: If your wrists are not comfortable, you can practice this pose with hands on blocks or a chair seat. This raised pose allows for those with tighter hamstrings to find relief as the raise releases some of the strain. Others practice with forearms on the floor which is referred to as dolphin pose which can be helpful for wrist pain and it will help strengthen the shoulder cuff region.
Retreat from the pose by bending the knees, drawing the hips back to child’s pose.
